Kyle Petty "First Start, First Win"

On February 11, 1979 Kyle Petty made his first start in a race car ever... It was at Daytona driving one of his father's left over '78 Dodge Magnums and he started second and won. This oil painting depicts Kyle blowing down the short straight out of turn four on his way to the victory. The painting is oil on canvas and is 24" x 12."

I painted this portrait of my son Nick in 8 hours trying to resist the temptation to overwork. I also wanted to experiment with painting the picture entirely, no drawing. I'm happy with the results.

Just got back from a fun time at the Monterey Historic races. I loved seeing the Stock Cars there this year and I hope they continue to have a class for them. It was great to see my painting "Roy Mayne 1965" one more time, and very special to see it with the actual car it depicts!

My first post features a painting I just completed of Nascar driver Roy Mayne's 1965 Chevy Impala SS. This car was recently purchased and miraculously brought back to life.
